Legislation

New government regulations have been introduced to protect the environment: They apply to both commercial and domestic premises.

These regulations include:

  • All oil storage tanks at commercial, industrial and institutional premises must be bunded by September 2005. All oil storage tank fittings and delivery equipment must be contained within the bund.
  • All oil storage tanks close to drains, waterways and wells may require bunding.
  • Domestic oil storage tanks must be installed to British standards

Installation

All tanks must be fitted by an OFTEC registered installer. The Tank Warranty may be affected if not installed correctly, or if any unauthorised work has been carried out on the tank, without the knowledge or permission of the Tank Manufacturer. For details on the current regulations, consult an OFTEC Registered Engineer, and enquire about a Risk Assessment TI / 133D Form.

All Bunded Tanks, including Waste Oil and Fuel Dispensers, carry a 10 year warranty. Single Skin Tanks, including Water Tanks, carry a 2 year warranty. Pumps on Fuel Dispensers carry a 1 year warranty. Hoses on Fuel Dispensers carry a 3 months warranty. For details of warranty on Gauges, please consult the appropriate gauge manufacturers details separately.

Connection and/or maintenance of electrical Pumping equipment, should only be carried out by a qualified electrical contractor. Failure to do so, may effect your warranty on the pump and/or the tank itself.

Fuel Dispensers should be used only for storage and dispensing of diesel fuels to BS and EN standards. (If Bio-Diesel greater than 5% mix is to be used, please consult A1 Tanks Services, before making your purchase).

Fuel Dispensers should NEVER be transported on the back of vehicles when containing fuel, and should not be moved or lifted when fuel is inside the tank itself.

Do not store or dispense petrol from any tank shown.

A1 Tank Services Ltd reserve the right to amend tank designs and sizes, to use alternative pumps and/ or equipment without prior notice.

Warranty

A1 Tank Services understand that it is important for customers to have the back up of a warranty when and if required. Provided our tanks have been correctly installed or commissioned, by an OFTEC Registered Installer, in accordance with OFTEC recommendations, the following warranty applies.

To ensure your tank condition, and to protect the environment around your tank, please follow some simple guidelines.

  1. A risk assessment should be carried out before installation by an OFTEC engineer. A T1/133 D form should be completed before installation. Regional requirements may vary.
  2. A1 Tank Services Ltd, recommend that a Bunded Oil Tank be installed to ALL applications, including domestic.
  3. Oil Tanks should be installed by an OFTEC registered engineer.
  4. Should your OFTEC installer have concerns over the condition of the tank, or feels that the tank may be damaged, please contact our office immediately. DO NOT INSTALL THE TANK IF YOU THINK IT IS DAMAGED.
  5. Your tank should be lifted using appropriate equipment, ie: fork lift, or equipment capable of using straps to lift the tank. Avoid lifting the tank by hand, as this could cause injury to you or people around you.
  6. The lid should be closed correctly and locked after filling and maintenance.
  7. When installing the tank, never install directly onto lawned or soft areas, or areas where the tank can be damaged, i.e. stoney areas, or gravel paths.
  8. The tank should be installed on a suitable base, either a correctly constructed concrete base, or concrete slabs, where the tank is fully supported on it's entire length and width across the base. If using pillars to support the tank, these should be of a suitable material, ie: engineering bricks, or concrete blocks, and supported using concrete lintels and concrete slabs. For advice on base details, consult OFTEC form T1/131 for advice on the sitting of Oil Tanks. (Your warranty could be affected if the tank is not supported correctly.)
  10. For details of warranty on Gauges, please consult the appropriate gauge manufacturers details separately.
  11. Please feel free to contact us if you have a query regarding any of our products.

Be Aware

Non-compliant storage and installations may jeopardise your household or commercial insurance.

The 'polluter pays: Is an established basis for environmental regulation, but one which the heating industry hasn't had to worry about much - until now! What does it mean? How will it affect you? Does it only apply to commercial oil installations?

In the case of either a commercial or a domestic oil tank leak, the reality is that it could be a serious and expensive issue if your installation is not up to scratch.
